HARSES!!

So I don't remember all of this week but it's been crazy! So we have visited our investigator Alan and Elder Hulet had me extend the baptismal invitation and date. Though it was hard to catch Alan because of work we did and I did so, with the help of Elder Hulet haha but he accepted!

Anyway what I would consider to be the best part of this week is that we got to do service on a ranch! There were horses everywhere and they were nice! Service felt super short and I wish it could've been longer, but I'm looking forward to it again this week.

We went to another BBQ place called Spring Creek BBQ and they had brisket and ribs. Man was I in heaven! It was actually out of our area but our mission prez called and after telling him how my first two weeks have been we asked him if we could go. He told us since we had a baptismal date we could. Thank you Alan!

Anyway one thing that I've started that I would like to ask anyone who's reading this is to get a plain copy of the BOM that the Missionaries carry and to pick something to look for in it and just mark it up. If you have any questions concerning life, I'm sure that you can find at least 10 answers on every page. I know that the BOM is from God and I'm so grateful that Joseph Smith translated it and restored this gospel. My favorite thing is that families are central and can be forever and I cannot wait to be with my family forever. Love all y'all and have a good week!

In the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle..

Our area is called the Woodlands, almost feels like I'm camping. So quick story with the planes, we had to fly to San Francisco first and then to Texas due to an Ice storm. First flight was one hour and the second was 5 hours and I enjoyed EVERY SECOND OF IT! It was great but we got to Texas at like 11 PM so yeah, that sucked.

Anyway my new companion is Elder Hulet. First day of meeting each other we were actually matching which was bomb! Come to find out that within the last couple of days we have a lot in common. He's an amazing trainer and the Lord couldn't have placed me in a better position. It's also nice to be able to talk before going to bed, having my own room sucked haha!

So this place is insanely flat. No hills, nothing just flat. There are small canal systems next to every road that go under everyone's drive way, due to the fact it rains a bit, though it hasn't been too crazy so far. The humidity is confusing me cuz it's constant, but it hasn't been too hot so it's really nice during the day and then really, really nice at night. Speaking of really nice, the homes down here would have Dad drooling, they're beautiful and way amazing. Same with the members, I don't know them too well but they're all really cool people.

Also with members, Bro. Flores is an elderly member who asked for our help with moving a table due to the fact we have a truck (Braxton be jealous😉) but after he took us to an ALL YOU CAN EAT STEAK BUFFET! The place is called Ryan's and it is sooooo good!

So though it was a little rough starting off I'm so glad I came out here and there's no place I'd rather be. This work is truly amazing and has blessed me in so many ways. I hope it's the same for all of you too. Love you and talk you all y'all later!

...quick thing to add, on Wednesday when I first got here we did some tracting and before hand while we were planning there was a sound coming from the kitchen. Couldn't figure out what it was but Elder Hulet said it was probably just a squirrel in the attic of the apartments haha, it was funny and kinda scary.

Anyway Love you!

He made it!

Dear Brother and Sister Rogers ,

Last night your missionary arrived in the Texas Houston Mission. Elder Rogers is safely here and looks very excited to be in Texas.

Each missionary came with a bright look in their eyes of determination and willingness to participate in taking the gospel to the people living in the mission boundaries.  We love each one already and are so glad to have him with us.

Thank you for the support and love you give your missionary.  It is most important as he begins and continues the experience of being in the field.  You will be receiving a letter from your missionary, with pictures and a letter from us shortly.

Warm regards,

President and Sister Jordan Peterson

On his way

We received this picture on messenger.  It's at one of the airports along the way.  They left Salt Lake City at 1:30 pm, had a layover in San Francisco and arrived in Texas around 9:30 om Texas time.

MTC Finale!

Anyway quick run through of the week.

Sunday morning I wasn't able to attend all the meetings because Elder Campbell was still ill, but now he's all better! That morning though we had a power outage and it went till about noon. Thankfully Elder Harvey came and switched me out so I could go take the Sacrament, he felt bad that I couldn't go through the temple and I'm so grateful I got to do that.

Monday we taught our TRC Investigators named Karisa and Erica. Both lessons went really well and it's amazing to just get a feel of what it's like to teach the gospel, I hope the field is relatively the same because that's freaking me out haha.

Tuesday we had a devotional and the speaker was Elder Bednar in which he told us in detail about the Priesthood Keys and how all that works in which I hope to remember because it's one thing that was really confusing me haha.

Wednesday we started something called Workshop which honestly is just a class for teaching how to decide if someone is ready for specific commitments. We only got to teach one TRC but it was great none the less. To add onto the first three days everyone else who was with us for the last three days had left by Wednesday, it got very quiet and was kinda sad. Keep them in your prayers.

Thursday we got our hairs cut and I feel sooooo much better! Sadly they don't let you cut your own hair I the MTC but while getting a hair cut the lady told me two elders before came in and said "I want the Elder Bednar" and then told me how my hair is naturally that way. Pretty awesome compliment haha. Also the two Elders who wanted the hair cut were the other two elders going to Houston as well. Also had another workshop class and the teacher used to play Lacrosse for BYU which though Braxton doesn't like them I thought was pretty cool haha.

Friday we got to go to the other TRC that we didn't do Wednesday and then after that went to President Monsons funeral viewing. Not sure if any of the rest of you saw it but it was very powerful. He's for sure set a great example for us to follow and also without a doubt was called to be a prophet of God. We later taught our first legit investigator again (Jeff) and it was also very powerful.

So far today has been great because we finally went to the temple! Sorry I didn't get any pictures of the temple but it was amazing and much needed.

I want to share my testimony about prophets and just how much more I now know. They are already prepared to be prophets and they all have amazing stuff for us to listen to that is directly from our father in heaven. I hope all of you know this. I love you all and will let you know how Texas is.

Another thing that was really cool tonight was we had a testimony meeting tonight and I felt the spirit so strongly that I literally was shaking, not a ton but I did. I'm just gonna share another testimony that I know God answers our prayers and that he loves us so much, the song "A Child's Prayer" tells it all, as it came to my mind after the testimony meeting was over.

Greenies!

So to start of this email it's a little sad, all of district B left for their missions at the beginning of this week and this next week ALL but the Greenies will leave, except for us going to Houston, we've still got another day and a half. I started talking to a few of the Elders that will be leaving though and found out that one of them lives in Ogden and knows Uncle Gary cuz he was his school bus driver! It was pretty sweet. Another one of the newer missionaries was telling me about wanting to work at the Playmill Theater as well which I thought was awesome.

Anyway so continuing, on Sunday we listened to this talk from Elder Bednar called "The Character of Christ." It's an amazing talk but is really hard to find. Another thing is we had a devotional with Brad Wilcox and a singer named Lexi Walker who's FLIPPIN 15! Me and Elder Campbell also got to meet our investigator Linda and got to teach her two lessons. We didn't get to meet the other cuz we had hosting on Wednesday and she was late on Monday to our meeting.

Tuesday we had another devotional with Bonnie C. Oscarson. When she got up I jokingly was like "sweet nap time" but I did listen and I probably got more stuff out of her talk than any other talk, she was a great speaker and it was cool to hear some of the stuff. We've also been doing choir and we sang a different version of "I Feel my Saviors Love" and the Tenor part was really hard, but it sounded so amazing. Small note is that some Elders on another floor were about to leave and were giving away their junk food, and I got popcorn.. life could not be better, I mean it's hard to compete with Popcorn and the gospel.

Speaking of Wednesday, we got to host the new missionaries! It was actually really fun. I only got to host two, in which one of them was a convert of almost two years and is the only convert in his family. Some people's testimonies amaze me. Another thing that is freaking awesome is that two of the new Elders who happen to be companions are Elder MOON and Elder CLOUD! How awesome us that! On Wednesday morning we woke up to do service on the MTC campus and that's when we found out about President Monson. We watched a video in class on his life and that man was an amazing example, I hope everyone can learn something from him.

So on Thursday Elder Campbell got another migraine. I was only able to go to an hour of class before coming back to the residence hall to trade out another missionary but right before I left we were asked to come up with a question and used Scripture to answer it. I wasn't able to come up with a question and find an answer but before I left I was able to share an experience with the same type of situation.

-"Back before I left on my mission I was questioning if it was gonna be pretty spiritual or if it was gonna be stricied and scary. I emailed a buddy of mine who had already left for a mission about the situation (we both went to EFY which was way spiritual) and asked him if it was the same as EFY? After that I read a chapter from the BOM and went to bed. The next day he told me to ask the Lord. A little frustrated at first I went back to the chapter I had already read and told Heveanly father I would read it again for answers, and I did get them."

Pretty great experience and also one of the few that put me in awe haha. Anyway later in the day Elder Campbell went from only having a migraine to getting really sick again. I feel so bad for the guy, please keep him in your prayers.

Friday we found out that one of our teachers will be teaching elsewhere in the building cuz college is starting up again. It sucks cuz both of the teachers are awesome but I'm glad we still have the one. Since I wasn't able to go to all of class it kinda sucked, however we ended up using Skype later and I was able to continue with the class while still in the residence hall!

Anyway sorry for the long email haha, but I just want to share my testimony along with that experience that I know our prayers are answered. Sometimes it is not immediate, and even then I've only had one experience like that, but God does listen and answer to you personally. Love you all! Happy Really-late New Year! Make sure your goals are Legit😂
